The Summer I Turned Insufferable 🐚
I hope this email finds you well. No really, I hope it does. And in fact, it really just might!
We’re now in July! Another holiday come and gone, although this time around there wasn’t much to celebrate. Another slew of hot days and blue skies, just how I like it. Lots of songs are written with July in mind, this one being the best.
Wimbledon is in full swing (no pun intended). Catch me watching matches in the background at my desk. Strawberries and cream, the outfits, the Wimbledon whites, the brand collabs, the looks, it’s all to-die-for. Remember when I visited Centre Court and Wimbledon village earlier this year??? I miss it.
I spent a long weekend last on the East Coast in Marshfield, Massachusetts. A wonderful trip staying with my dear friend’s family, a family who treats every person who walks in their door like their own. And oh, were we fed. Surf & turf, a cocktail menu, wine pouring all night, small bites, big bites, shrimp, ribs, you name it. I made s’mores with a very aggressive method of burning the marshmallows. So much fuel needed for all the activities which rounded out to be tennis, Zumba, laying at the beach, swimming at the beach, eating at the beach and playing with the family cat who was on Prozac.
I’ve done a lot of runs and walks as usual, some with different routes and some the same, however I’ve come across so many new (to me) spots. One including Loaf On Paper by Niconeco Zakkaya. This is an adorable spot, part coffee shop, part Japanese stationary store. I mean don’t you just melt?? 🥹 🐈
Surprise, surprise, here’s the latest r.e.p.o.r.t! It’s like a pop quiz you knew was coming. But you don’t need to study!
Reading: Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid. TJR always slaps, Carrie Soto seems to be an appropriate one to mention with the tennis theme for July and Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is simply a gem. In Reid’s latest, the setting is space! But not Blue Origin. Set in the 1980’s and following a character who wants to be one of first women scientists to join NASA’s Space Shuttle program. OK women in STEM!
Eating: Dreams really do come true. I had a lobster roll on the rocky beaches of Massachusetts. A lobster roll with some Cape Cod chips and an ice cold Corona? I have chills.
Playing: Tennis finally!!!! It’s been ages since I’ve picked up a racquet and I miss it so much. Last time I played was the story of the country club upstate with the slight marital dispute wearing all whites. Feel free to ask if you haven’t heard! I played out some points and hit a few good serves. OK action shot!
We’ve also been into playing bad country music, just for fun. Because it kind of still hits. And it’s really not THAT bad. It’s a nostalgia thing for me, a la Country MegaTicket in the late 2010’s. This all started thanks to me watching Twisters, the soundtrack really hits.
Obsessing: Over the tiny McDonalds toys that come in Happy Meals. You know my love for teeny, tiny things. A tiny Halloween bucket! I need it! Oh, and my latest hyper fixation is a chicken caesar wrap from Bobwhite.
Recommending: Putting on a cute little dress and taking yourself out for a drink (although in my case, the drink ended up being really bad and I couldn’t finish it) so maybe make sure the drink will be good before you go. 🍸 My other STRONG recommendation is taking a stroll in the 6BC Botanical Garden (on 6th between Avenues A & B), but specifically sitting in the tree house perched up in the trees 🥹 Bring a book and your set!
Treating: Myself to some beachside soft serve 🍦 Multiple times at multiple beaches. Mister Softee is that u? He’s the only one I want on the summer roster. I also had my first ever piña colada at Connolly’s. Let’s just say it definitely won’t be my last.
I’m feeling giving again, so here are some extra credit obsessions as of late.
These JW Pei Bags. Specifically the lettuce. I think I need that one the most. But the fish!! You know how I feel about aquatic animals.
This Molly Baz x Ayoh Glizzy Mcguire collab. No words, Molly kills it! Another one down.
And this is just your reminder that Kate Bosworth and Justin Long are married. I was reminded of that thanks to my deep dive after my annual summer tradition of watching Blue Crush. Do yourself a favor and take a seat and watch. Another solid movie soundtrack.
Keep on keeping on my summer lovers. Our summer weekends are limited, so just a reminder the weekdays deserve a little fun too! 🫶 With love (& a lot of it), J ❤️🔥
